They may be gone by the time you read this, but just before 5 p.m. today Live Nation announced that “great seats” had just been released for both of Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band’s shows this week at L.A. Sports Arena, April 16-17. Click here to see if any tickets are left.
Also, tickets for the previously announced Aerosmith/ZZ Top show, Aug. 23 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, will go on sale Saturday, April 18, at noon. Tickets to see another previously mentioned gig, New Kids on the Block at Verizon on July 10, go on sale Saturday at 10.

Just how many times are these guys gonna play Southern California? As many as it takes until every screaming fan has been drained of cash?
Already the reunited, ridiculously popular New Kids on the Block have a Hollywood Palladium show slated for April 18, which brings them back to L.A. after several shows at Staples Center and Nokia Theatre last fall. Now, having revealed plans for their Full Service Summer Tour, Jordan, Joey, Donnie, Danny and Jonathan have announced their first O.C. appearance since regrouping — July 10 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine.
The tour kicks off May 28 in Atlanta and also will stop July 11 at the Pearl at the Palms in Las Vegas. Early dates of the outing go on sale this Friday, April 3. Stay tuned for Verizon on-sale info.

It’s been all music-music- music this week, so let’s start this one off with some comedy shows — ones at venues not typically used for funny business.
Flight of the Conchords, the Grammy-winning Kiwi duo of Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement known stateside for their eponymous HBO series, will headline May 24 at the Greek Theatre, as well as May 22 at the Santa Barbara Bowl. Arj Barker opens both shows. Tickets for the Greek, $39.50, go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m.; tickets for the Bowl, a dollar less, go on sale two hours later.
(Also at the Bowl: yet another New Kids on the Block appearance, with Jabbawockeez opening, April 17, $39-$89, on sale Saturday at 1 p.m.)
Meanwhile, comedian Louis C.K. has a bigger-than-usual gig coming up, March 27 at the Wiltern. Those tickets go on sale Saturday at 10.
Also at the Wiltern: British star Lily Allen, whose sophomore effort, It’s Not Me, It’s You, arrives Feb. 10, will play the L.A. theater on April 2, with Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head (my new favorite band name) opening, on sale Saturday at noon … and a co-headlining show with Black Label Society and Sevendust, with Dope and Cycle of Pain warming up, May 2, on sale Saturday at 10.
By the way, all of the above Wiltern shows (even Louis C.K.’s) as well as coming dates from Jimmy Buffett at Verizon and Modest Mouse at the Hollywood Palladium — and Bamboozle Left — will be sold exclusively through Live Nation’s site or by phone at 877-598-6671.

• The big news this week — other than the eagerly awaited reveal of this year’s Coachella lineup (which should arrive anytime now, right?) — came from Bruce Springsteen. On the eve of the release of the Boss’ 16th studio effort (the excellent Working on a Dream), Sunday’s Super Bowl halftime star and his faithful E Street Band will return to Los Angeles Sports Arena on April 15. Tickets go on sale Monday, Feb. 2, at 10 a.m.
But there are surely plenty of people who couldn’t care less about Springsteen and are more excited by the beefing up of the renovated Hollywood Palladium’s roster.
• Four new shows have been announced: metal band Lamb of God with As I Lay Dying, Children of Bodom, God Forbid and Municipal Waste, April 3, on sale Friday at 10 a.m. … fascinating instrumentalists Ratatat, April 4, on sale at 5 p.m. Thursday … British band Bloc Party, led by Kele Okereke (pictured, at the sadly defunct Indie 103.1’s holiday bash Wreck the Halls last month), April 15, on sale Friday at 10 a.m. … and yet another appearance (the smallest yet) from the reunited New Kids on the Block, April 18, on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday.
• Tindersticks, that moody ensemble with a cult following, is back after five years away, touting a new album, The Hungry Saw. The band plays March 13 at the Music Box at the Fonda in Hollywood, on sale Saturday.
• Get up-close and personal with American Idol Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta when the little guy with the big voice comes to the Glass House in Pomona on St. Patrick’s Day (March 17, if you forgot). Tickets, $23, go on sale at noon Friday. Also at the club and on sale at that time: Plants and Animals, March 11, $10.
• This should really be something: French electronic duo M83, whose fifth effort (Saturdays = Youth) was one of the better albums of 2008, will join forces with the L.A. Philharmonic March 7 at Walt Disney Concert Hall. It’s the group’s first live performance with symphonic backing. Tickets, $28-$37, go on sale Friday at 10.
• Death Cab for Cutie has announced a spring tour that stops April 29 at Rimac Arena in San Diego. Seeing as the band is in Sacramento two days before and Austin two days after, I wouldn’t expect any O.C. or L.A. play this time.
• Comedian, Real Time host and Religulous star Bill Maher will headline March 28 at Gibson Amphitheatre. Those tickets go on sale Saturday at 1.
New at House of Blues Anaheim: a second visit from Tricky (even though his first didn’t garner many attendees), March 24, on sale Saturday at 10 … New Found Glory with Bayside and Set Your Goals, March 27, on sale Thursday at 10 … Loverboy, March 1, on sale now … Colombian outfit Aterciopelados, April 16 … and long-running reggae act UB40, April 19. Those last two also go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The band beloved for its cover of Neil Diamond’s “Red Red Wine” also play April 23 at House of Blues Sunset Strip. Also slated for that West Hollywood club: the Pat Travers Band, Feb. 24. Both of those gigs go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Note: I know I’ve been off and on since a bit before Christmas, but I’ve got vacation days to burn …and January is the best (read: quietest) time to do that. After this, barring any big breaking news, I’ll be back next week.
There are plenty of offerings this week, but if you ask me the most exciting news is that new Hall of Fame inductee Leonard Cohen is set to play his first show in the States in 15 years, Feb. 19 at New York’s Beacon Theatre. Wish there were a run of West Coast dates to announce as well, but though that gig is billed as a one-night-only affair, at least there’s reason to hope more might be added.
As for what’s going on ’round here …
Primus bassist, vocalist and all-around oddball Les Claypool (pictured with his old band at Verizon in 2004) will headline a bill March 7 at the Hollywood Palladium that also includes outspoken poet-rocker Saul Williams and performance-art ensemble the Mutaytor and modern cabaret act the Yard Dogs Road Show. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15. Claypool’s next album, Of Fungi and Foe, drops on St. Patrick’s Day.
The increasingly popular Irish outfit Celtic Woman is coming back for three dates – May 24 at the Orange County Performing Arts Center, May 25 at the Greek Theatre and May 29 at the Open Air Theatre in San Diego. Stay tuned for on-sale info.
Cold War Kids keep moving up in venue size and/or stature. The band’s spring return includes stops March 26 at 4th & B in San Diego and March 27 at the Orpheum Theatre in L.A. The latter date goes on sale Friday. Crystal Antlers will open. Also at the Orpheum: singer-songwriters Missy Higgins and Justin Nozuka with Lenka opening, $25, on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Country mavericks Raul Malo (actually of the Mavericks) and Shelby Lynne have teamed for a tour that plays March 11 at House of Blues Anaheim and March 12 at House of Blues Sunset Strip. Tickets, $25, go on sale Saturday.

Every girl remembers her first crush. Finding that one boy who causes those powerful fluttering stomach butterflies and that warming sensation that roses up the cheeks. All those signs of being in love.
For me, that boy was Jonathan Knight of New Kids on the Block.
The group called it quits in 1994, and girls everywhere were heartbroken. But now the boys are back with a new album (The Block) and tour, which they’ve been plugging on virtually every daytime talk show – and news of their reunion has awakened the kid in me.
It’s exciting to think that in just a few short days – Oct. 8 at Staples Center, to be exact – I’ll be seeing them perform live for the very first time. (They also perform Nov. 26, the day before Thanksgiving, across the street at Nokia Theatre.) I can’t help but wonder if seeing them again will trigger any of the same feelings I once had.
It also has forced me to recall my first big crush – and, as embarrassing as it is to admit now, my first big heartache.

Just fyi: That day-before- Thanksgiving New Kids on the Block show at Staples Center, Nov. 26, has been moved across Chick Hearn Court to the considerably smaller Nokia Theatre, apparently due to a scheduling conflict with a Clippers game. How it is that venue operators didn’t realize there was a Clippers game that night kinda baffles me. But there it is.
And note: Just ’cause you had tickets to the Staples gig doesn’t mean you now have tickets to the Nokia show. If you purchased them through Ticketmaster online or by phone through Staples Center, you will automaticallly receive new tickets. But if you purchased them through a Ticketmaster outlet or through the Staples Center box office, you will have to back to your point of purchase to exchange them. No tickets to Staples will be honored at Nokia.
