Well, KROQ has revealed Night 1’s lineup, anyway. And as has been the case more than once this decade, the unrivaled radio-promo weekend bash that is Almost Acoustic Christmas is shaping up to be half heavy, half indie. We’ll know for sure if that prediction holds true come 5 p.m. today (Nov. 20), when Night 2’s lineup is unveiled on-air and online.
Anyway, Your Night 1 Superstars: The Offspring (who played second banana to Metallica at May’s Weenie Roast, you’ll recall) … Stone Temple Pilots … Rise Against … a “special appearance” from AFI (does that mean not a usual-length set? acoustic? or just that it’s been awhile?) … Staind (speaking of “It’s Been Awhile”) … Three Days Grace … Slightly Stoopid … and lucky “rapcore” newcomer Hollywood Undead.
My guess for Night 2’s headliner: the Killers. (Not like I’m going out on a limb with that prediction or anything.)
Dates, as we had assumed, are Dec. 13-14. At Gibson Amphitheatre, of course.
Tickets go on sale … uh … sometime. KROQ always delivers those details first. They like to surprise, y’know.
Proceeds this year will go to the event’s usual charities, Para Los Niños and The Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center.

I think “Special Appearance” means “headliner sized band that is not headlining.” The year Beastie Boys played before the Strokes at Weenie roast (’02, maybe?) they were billed as a special appearance too.
