• So if you’ve got Oasis and Ryan Adams on the same bill, which one gets to do “Wonderwall”? Or do they both offer versions so the audience can compare and contrast?
We’ll find out Dec. 4 when the pairing plays Staples Center. (Anyone else think that’s an awfully large venue for a not-especially-popular former Britpop fave to possibly fill?) Tickets, $39-$79, go on sale Friday, Oct. 3, at 10 a.m. The tour, in support of Oasis’ next album, Dig Out Your Soul (due Oct. 7), kicks off Dec. 3 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland and also stops Dec. 6 at the Pearl in Las Vegas, at the Palms Hotel & Casino Resort.
• Van Morrison will celebrate the 40th anniversary of his seminal, still-unique folk-jazz classic Astral Weeks with two shows at the Hollywood Bowl, Nov. 7-8. From the way it’s billed, he’ll presumably play the album in its entirety — but this is the unpredictable Van, so there’s no telling what he’ll really do. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5.
• Did you see who’s opening for Rise Against’s three shows at the Hollywood Palladium, Oct. 31-Nov. 2? Not just Thrice but also Alkaline Trio and the Gaslight Anthem. Tickets — $33 for one night, $88.50 for a three-day pass — are on sale now.
• And at the Grove of Anaheim: As I Lay Dying, Nov. 21, on sale at noon Saturday, Oct. 4.

I think you’re correct Ben. If Oasis checked, the Gibson (6000), Nokia (6000) and even the Forum (14000) all appear to have open dates on Dec 4 and they would be a better fit than Staples (19000).
Correct me if I’m wrong, but Oasis did sell out the Hollywood Bowl in 2005, with that being 17,000 and some, its not too much of a surprise.
Did they really sell out the Bowl that time? I don’t remember it being packed, but I could be mistaken. Granted, I think Oasis these days works better in a big space like Staples. Just wonder if they can sell that many tickets. Here’s hoping.
Maybe I’m wrong and it’s just me that would have liked to see them in a smaller venue. IMO, Staples and the Pond are the worse concert venue’s we have. But good luck to them, with the combination of the economy, holidays, AC/DC, Metallica, etc. and even the Lakers starting up.
Same can be said for Van, I believe the last time he played here was at the Gibson in 2007. I know he’s played one night stands at the bowl in the past, but two shows at the bowl in kinda cold November, I dunno….I did just pull out Van’s ‘A Night in SF from 1993′, if you haven’t heard it, it’s one of the best Live albums ever!
