“The Queen Is Back!” her opening number declared. The Queen of Disco, that is — Donna Summer, who Friday night in her first of two shows at the Hollywood Bowl spotlighted both a wide array of selections from her first collection of new material since 1991 (Crayons) as well as plenty of old Studio 54 favorites like “I Feel Love” and “Bad Girls” and “Last Dance.” (And dig that extra-sparkly purple dress!) Peter “Pedro” Larsen danced the night away with the near-capacity crowd, then shook his tail-feather back to O.C. to file his report. Read his assessment and check out more of Armando Brown’s pics here, or click for the full set list.

I was there last night and what a show! Donna Summer is the diva of the divas. This was my second chance to see her on stage, last time was 2 years ago at the Gibson Theater Citywalk.
Donna Summer should be at the Coliseum in Las Vegas instead of Bette Middler. Nothing against Mrs. Middler, but I didn’t like her performance at all. May God bless her to keep performing many more times. I honestly still hope to see her sharing the stage with Cher someday soon in Sin City.

We were at the Bowl on Sat. night and Donna Summer was on fire! Unfortunately, I think we were amongst some Bowl philharmonic folks, who didn’t get D.S. - but we have fun anyway. Amazing to hear this Disco Diva still “gettin it done” with that powerful voice of hers. At this rate, she’ll keep “workin hard for the money” for some time to come. She does need to be in Vegas - she still has the talent - and her new and old songs are wonderful! I’d listen to her sing from the phone book with that voice - that truly amazing voice!
