Billy Idol, Blondie, Devo slated for Jack’s Third Show at Verizon

It’s another ’80s-heavy bash for Jack FM — maybe the new-waviest yet — as Billy Idol, Blondie, Devo, Psychedelic Furs and REO Speedwagon have been tapped to play Jack’s Third Show, Sept. 27 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater.
Ye olde “Rebel Yell”-er, who appeared at Jack’s First Show in 2006 alongside Def Leppard, Cheap Trick and Violent Femmes, will headline this time. (Last year’s gathering, read about it here, featured Stevie Nicks, the Pretenders, ZZ Top, Stray Cats and Sugar Ray.)
In addition to Idol’s spot at Jackfest, coincidentally his final show this year (or so he says), the spiky-haired 52-year-old born Billy Broad also will make a three-night stand at the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip, Sept. 16-17 and 19.
At all stops he’ll likely perform his usual hits along with two new tracks, “John Wayne” and “New Future Weapon,” both of which curiously figure on his latest retrospective, The Very Best of Billy Idol: Idolize Yourself. (I say “curiously” ’cause it always kinda bugs when fresh tunes are slapped onto very-best compilations.)
And at the HoB gigs, the venue will be transformed into the House of Billy, with its outside wrapped in images of Idol created by Obey Giant graphic designer and illustrator Shepard Fairey, the guy who created both the iconic Obama “HOPE” poster and the art for the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line.
Tickets for the Sunset Strip shows, $52.50, are on sale now. Tickets for Jack’s Third Show go on sale Aug. 27 at noon. Those who want the early scoop and a shot at good seats are encouraged to join the station’s League of Ordinary Listeners.
