Get your $10 concert tickets while they last!

July 17th, 2008, 3:31 am · 36 Comments · posted by Ben Wener

Adam DuritzIs it a genuine show of gratitude or a savvy ploy to push tickets for shows that aren’t selling during an economic slump? Probably a bit of both, but however you view it, Live Nation’s “Fan Appreciation Day” is an opportunity no concert-goer should pass up.

“In light of the escalating transportation costs our fans are experiencing this summer,” the touring giant announced in a press release issued this morning, $10 tickets to more than 40 shows at 11 of Southern California’s venues will go on sale for one day only — Friday, July 18 — from 10 a.m. to midnight, while supplies last.

Among the gigs included in the promotion: Maroon 5 and Counting Crows, Sept. 12 at Verizon Wireless AmphitheaterRod Stewart and Bryan Adams, Aug. 1 at Verizon … the Rock the Bells hip-hop festival, featuring A Tribe Called Quest and Nas, Aug. 9 at San Manuel Amphitheater (formerly Hyundai/Glen Helen Pavilion) … ZZ Top and Brooks & Dunn, Aug. 3 at San Manuel Amphitheater … some Wiltern shows, including Bullet for My Valentine on July 25 and Less Than Jake with Goldfinger on July 26 … and this Sunday’s Download Festival at Gibson Amphitheatre, featuring Brand New, Gang of Four and the Jesus and Mary Chain.

Not a bad deal, eh? Snatch ‘em up while you can. Click for the complete list of shows offering cheapo tix.

Oh, and don’t get fooled: Service charges still apply.

UPDATES:

I didn’t make this clear — yes, these tickets will be sold through Ticketmaster, as always.

Also, Live Nation San Diego IS taking part in the promotion. Check the comments to see what shows will be on sale for cheap down south.

• You can also purchase tickets through LiveNation.com. Remember, the promotion doesn’t begin until 10 a.m.

it would probably be a good idea to explain in detail how to buy them…or at least provide the website (URL)

  2. gg Says:

looks like i may be going to a bunch of shows that were too expensive before, thanks for the tip!

Ben is this for LA only or are they doing this for SD and the bay area as well?

  3. ashley Says:

do you buy these tickets from ticketmaster or LiveNation??

  4. Wendie Says:

It doesn’t even list how to go about purchasing these $10 ticket. Hello? Maybe it’s just me. A little disappointing.

  5. Ben Wener Says:

ashley, bpsqwerty: My apologies. It was very late. Yes, these tickets will be sold through Ticketmaster. Don’t sue me if they’re crappy seats.

gg: I dunno if they’re doing it for any S.D. or Bay Area shows, I haven’t heard. But I’ll look into it. Another thought would be to check during the day Friday on certain venues in those areas, just to see if any are suddenly selling really cheap tickets. Good luck.

  9. kim Says:

    Hello?…. hook me up!… how?

  10. Dean Says:

There needs to be details on purchasing theses seats. Most like they are nosebleeds.

  11. RandyM Says:

    Ben,
Based on some of the questions people are asking, it appears they have never purchased tickets on-line, want first row or want you get the tickets for them, which may include mailing or hand delivering them. Sorry people…it’s a blog, he’s giving out info as he hear’s it. It’s a back and forth, if you have a question ask nicely.

  12. bpsqwerty Says:

it says Ticketmaster, yet Livenation.com is a website selling tickets. and the offer said it’s Livenation selling $10 tickets. so of course it’s confusing…

I’ve bought tickets online many a time and still a little confused. I couldn’t find any $10 (there were other “deals” for these shows like $25 lawn seats if you buy 4 at a time, but nothing $10). so I went to Ticketmaster.com and found the same prices.

I’d expect, of course they’re nosebleeds or lawn if they’re $10. but still, lets me pick up some cheap tickets for these shows…

  13. bpsqwerty Says:

OK nm I’ll try again at 10am. is there some special password or something? hmmmm

  14. jb Says:

    http://promo.livenation.com/tendollarSD/

    http://promo.livenation.com/tendollarLA/

  15. bully Says:

With the added fees, it ends up being $25 for a lawn ticket….same as the advertised price on anyway….

  16. Dean Says:

I just did a check for the $10.00 tickets on Live nation for Rod Stewart. As expected they are the tickets in the nosebleed section( Lawn seats). At least the info is up there.

  17. bpsqwerty Says:

I’m not really seeing it - just $29.50

  18. bpsqwerty Says:

found em - click “LN Special Offer” on the event page

  19. bpsqwerty Says:

umm…the time stamp on this blog is off by -1 hour…

  20. bpsqwerty Says:

wow, two “$10″ tickets works out to $49.95 with all the crazy fees … even with free shipping. ouch

  21. gg Says:

i’m still in line for 15 mins after following all the mystery links. one of the shows “special offer” links just links to the exact same ticketmaster page as the regular buy link.

yea i have a feeling i’m not going to be getting any tickets

and wow bpsqwerty i didnt expect it to be that much. i thought maybe around $35-40. the fees are just insane these days. if you are buying two tickets, you will pay for the price of three.

  22. mmk Says:

Rod Stewart/ Bryan Adams were Lawn and they have a convenience charge of 4.00 and a Building facility charge of 6.00, so the tickets were 20.00. What is this 6.00 building facility charge??

  23. ocobserver Says:

Just purchased 2 “$10″ tickets to Tod Stewart/Byran Adams. After service charge and parking they were actually about $24 a piece. Lawn seats. Never sat on the lawn at verison. Probably lousy visually but the music should be good.

  24. PW Says:

Live Nation wants to fill crap seats and sell expensive food, beer, t-shirts, ticket fees and whatever else. There are no free lunches anymore, or fan appreciation days, just a quick money making deal IMO. Rock On!

  25. Will Work for Food Says:

Marron 5? Rod Stewart? They should be paying people to come hear that schlock.

  26. Wendie Says:

I see all the links to Live Nation but it says that Ticketmaster works, too, but it doesn’t seem to be selling the $10 tickets. Or if they are, it’s not at all obvious.

Why did the author say to get them on ticketmaster? Wasted my time there.

  27. LC Says:

Ha ha WE’RE OLD WE’LL TAKE TEN DOLLARS, if you’ll come to see us.

    .

  28. Mike Says:

Got my $10 tickets to the Maroon show at Verizon. Got them pretty fast through ticket master. Lawn seats but who cares after getting a couple of beers should be fine as long as the music is good. Ticket master sure is getting the best of this deal, get people in and pay us our commission bi atches. Tickets ending up being around $23 bucks each. Thanks Ticket master, for slave appreciation day. Master, may I buy a shirt too?

  29. Roxanne Hack Says:

I’m not sure what you all are doing.

I went to Ticketmaster.com. I searched for one of the concerts listed above. I clicked “Find Tickets.” It gave me the option for $10 Fan Appreciation Day tickets. I chose 2.

Sure, it came out to $45 all together with fees, but it would’ve been $85 if the tickets had been $30 to start, so I’m not complaining!!!

  30. Greg H Says:

    This is BullSh$T!
I tried to get tickets to see Steel Pulse and no $10 tickets.
I even called and waited on the phone and the guy there gave me the standard, well if they did have they must have sold them all.
I did all this just now and it’s 11:22 am pst. fri 18th
I really hate when these type of things get published. Now the whole thing is screwed. Won’t even feel good about going at all, would have rather never seen this total crap advertising $10 tickets.
Greg ps screw u. whoever, someone, anyone, this sux!

  31. gg Says:

all you Rod Stewart fans clogging up the internets should stop bitching about how bad the seats are. what did you expect? you obviously dont go to many concerts so you dont realize that this is basically a ticket to get in the door, and yes they most likely will be the worst seats in the house. that is to be expected. bring the binoculars and just have a good time! ticketmaster and live nation arent looking out for buddies or doing this just to be nice. they are looking to make sure all the seats are filled. with gas prices and the economy the way it is, people are probably not going to as many shows as in previous years. especially the overpriced ones like Rod there.

i got tickets for one of the two shows i was trying for. it took over an hour of me not even being sure i was really in line due to poor website design (animated gif “processing” bar? hello 1997!). it came to $40 for two tickets to the download fest and im happy with that. the mmj show had incorrect linkage and when i finally checked again they were all gone. oh well

dear live nation: i still hate you and will never forgive you for the $5 per bottle of water at street scene last year.

dear ticket scalpers: i’m sure you guys had a field day with this one. rest assured there is a special place for you and your kind in dante’s 8th circle of hell (i hear its actually worse than the 9th)

  32. RandyM Says:

This should be about right from what I saw as quoted above, ” “Rod Stewart/ Bryan Adams were Lawn, have a convenience charge of $4, Building facility charge of $6, so the tickets were $20″, although each site may have different fees. Watch out, Live Nation (believe it or not) actually charges more in the fee department than Ticketmaster! These tickets are available on both sites! Someone also asked, “What is this 6.00 building facility charge?” It’s different at many places, but at Irvine (their tickets) it’s for parking and maybe something more. Irvine doesn’t charge for parking on the night of the event, so this is how they get that fee. Some places do both.
    Good luck to all.

  33. Ben Wener Says:

Just want to throw two more of my cents into this …

    – I’m not surprised that the majority (probably “all” but I don’t have verification) of $10 tickets for amphitheater shows were lawn seats. People, what were you expecting for $10? Fifth row in the orchestra? Of course it’s a promotion to help fill some shows, and correct me if I’m wrong, but it IS a savings. If it was going to cost you $40-$60 to sit on the lawn after service charges, and now it’s costing you $20-$30 … am I missing something? Did you not just get a deal? Service charges are service charges, and they suck — but what can you do? The deal was to give people some kind of discount, yes? Not to sell every remaining seat for $10.

    – I AM surprised that so many people were so baffled about how to buy tickets, as if Ticketmaster were some sort of unknown entity, or that there would be some radical new ticket-buying process put in place for what is a simple promotion that is probably mostly over by now (i.e. the majority of $10 tickets set aside have been claimed). For every show I looked up that had the Fan Appreciation Day offer attached, there was a clearly marked Fan Appreciation Day drop-down selector, enabling you to buy the $10 tickets. Seemed pretty obvious to me.

    – I’m not unsympathetic to the amount of time people have spent trying to get these tickets, only to come up short or confused. But the reality is that specials like this don’t apply to ALL tickets. They are blocks set aside, and when those blocks are gone, they’re gone. You, your mom, your best friend and your dog were all trying to buy tickets along with thousands upon thousands of other people, no doubt. Do the math. If there are 15,000 tickets available for Rod Stewart total (that’s Verizon’s capacity), and let’s say, oh, 8,000-10,000 of those were already sold by now (that might be overly generous) … and now let’s say that pretty much only lawn seating was left, and Live Nation had decided to put maybe 1,000 of those tickets on sale for $10 … exactly how long do you think it will take in a region of tens of millions of people for those tickets to be sold?

If you ask me, the best deals were for non-amphitheater shows, namely those at the Mouse House (all general admission) and Gibson (like the Download Fest) and the Wiltern and Rock the Bells. But clearly everyone can’t be lucky — everyone can’t get in for $10.

  34. RandyM Says:

Wendie, not sure what you’re looking at. Maybe you have a show their not doing this for,

  35. gg Says:

Ben - glad you tried to put this in perspective for the masses. i think people really did have some unrealistic expectations, but then again they probably arent as used to dealing with the beast that is Ticketmaster. all i wanted to say is that the websites WERE seriously messed up. the ticketmaster site didnt have the drop down for fan appreciation tickets for the mmj show in sd until at least 10:30ish. i had been checking for a while and then just gave up just to see the drop down around 10:45 but it was too late. a good chunk of my income goes to ticketmaster so i like to think i know what i’m doing, but whoever was in charge didnt do a good job of coordinating the whole thing. at the same time it was not fair for people to come here and bash you for that. half of them wouldn’t have even known about the sale if you didnt mention it

that said i dont think we should ever be upset about people complaining about the extra fees. just like gas prices and silly things our silly government does, if you dont make noise when you think you are being mistreated, they will keep doing as much as they can get away with. i realize they have to pay to rent the facility, the security, and other staff, but does that mean that all the extra fees take care of that and 100% of the listed ticket price goes to the artist and their team? i highly doubt it. if we knew where all the dollars from each ticket went i think it would be obvious we are being taken advantage of. the only alternatives out there are the little guys and they dont stand a chance
