Lit to play benefit for drummer Allen Shellenberger

Lit, photographed by John JuniperTo help raise funds for its drummer Allen Shellenberger to battle back cancer, O.C. band Lit has announced it will play a benefit show July 26 at House of Blues Anaheim, with special guests.

You may recall that a month ago it was revealed that Shellenberger, 38, is suffering from a rare brain tumor, a malignant glioma, the same sort that has debilitated Sen. Ted Kennedy. But chances are good now for Kennedy, after an invasive surgery and ongoing radiation treatments, to fully recover. That’s the sort of news that should give hope to Shellenberger’s friends and family.

Tickets for the benefit, $32.50-$57.50, go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 28.

Also added at the Mouse House: the superb Canadian ensemble Stars, Oct. 2, on sale Saturday … British band the Kooks, touring behind its second album (Konk), Oct. 27, on sale Friday … psychobilly trio HorrorPops on (when else?) Halloween, on sale Saturday (click for a video interview with them at last week’s Warped Tour) … and Hootie & the Blowfish, Aug. 22, on sale Saturday.

Meanwhile, further on up Katella Avenue at the Grove of Anaheim, the Gypsy-punk lunatics of Gogol Bordello are poised to attack on Oct. 2. Tickets, $25, go on sale at noon Saturday. And that same night (Oct. 2), Icelandic atmospherists Sigur Ros will put the Greek to sleep … or leave people rapt, depending on who’s doing the listening. Those tickets, $32.50-$52.50, also go on sale Saturday.
