(Watch him and bassist Matt Grundy performing on Register Soundstage here.)

The new album, Pass It Around, arrives Aug. 19 boasting several guest turns — Ben Harper on the title track, G. Love on “Sing a Song” (presumably not the Earth, Wind & Fire classic) and Grant Lee Phillips, who co-wrote and performs on “Mansions in the Sand.” Frankenreiter also enlisted friends Mike Daly (of Whiskeytown), Steve McEwan (of UnAmerican) and Thad Cockrell for songwriting assistance this time out. Producing is veteran engineer Joe Chiccarelli, who has recently worked with the Shins (Wincing the Night Away) and the White Stripes (Icky Thump).
