Didn’t score tickets to any of Yaz’s three shows at the Orpheum Theatre in early July? Good news: The reunited duo, synth man Vince Clarke and soulful belter Alison Moyet, have added an O.C. stop: Pacific Amphitheatre, July 24. Fair regulars Psychedelic Furs will open. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 31.
Just a reminder: Yaz’s four-disc box set, In Your Room, featuring everything they ever recorded (and in 5.1 sound), arrives July 8, the same date that starts the Orpheum run. I’ll have much more to say just before then, after I’ve interviewed Alison and Vince.

What is the password for presale?
i still can’t get over the fact that the singer for Yaz is a woman. i just found out about two weeks ago and my mind was blown. always pictured some marc almond-esque guy
i shared this news with others and they had the same reaction. funny stuff
GG: This reminds me of a moment a couple years ago when my wife came to the realization that Joe Cocker is, in fact, a white Englishman, not a hippie Ray Charles. (I’ve been guilty of this as well. The first Joe Jackson album I heard, when I was 13 or so, was “Night and Day.” Thought he was black for two weeks. Then I saw a picture. And laughed.)
For my money, Alison Moyet is one of the best female vocalists the U.K. has ever produced. In addition to Yaz’s wonderful debut, “Upstairs at Eric’s” (the home of “Situation” and “Don’t Go” and “Only You,” but also the must-hears “Winter Kills” and “Midnight”), her solo stuff has been spotty, yes, but always sprinkled with memorable gems. Her best-of is recommended; 1991’s “Hoodoo,” sporting the great feminist anthem “Rise,” is also worth tracking down.
Sorry, Tony … didn’t know the presale password … and I’m sure the presale is over now.
