Matchbox Twenty added to Pacific Amphitheatre’s season

April 22nd, 2008, 9:50 pm · Post a Comment · posted by BEN WENER, THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty live at Staples Center, March 2008, by Armando BrownRob Thomas and the rest of Matchbox Twenty may have just played a downscaled (and still not quite full) Staples Center a month ago, but they’re coming back – and playing a gig that, given the time of year (summer) and venue (Pacific Amphitheatre), should be a sell-out. The group plays July 31 at Pacific, though this time not with Alanis Morissette in tow. (Instead, Hodges will open. Yeah, I’d never heard of him, either.) Tickets go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m.

Meanwhile, Sheryl Crow – now wouldn’t she make a good M20 road companion? – will play June 11 at the Greek Theatre, as previously reported. Rocco DeLuca & the Burden will open, though Los Lonely Boys will be the warm-up act when she plays June 12 at the Santa Barbara Bowl. Tickets for the Greek, $46-$76, go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. Ducats for the Bowl, $54-$85, go on sale two hours later. (Also at the Bowl: The Steve Miller Band with Joe Cocker, Aug. 7, on sale Saturday at 11 a.m.)

Following its 31st anniversary shows at the Music Box in Hollywood, the L.A. punk legends of X have added a show June 13 at House of Blues Anaheim. Tickets, $29.50, are on sale now.

Also:

Also at the Mouse House: “Tribute to the Godfather of Soul,” featuring Bootsy Collins & the Hardest Working Band (featuring James Brown’s original rhythm section and Tony Wilson), the Bobby Byrd Band, Escapism, I-Candy, Freekbass and more, May 29 … Metro Station with the Maine, the Cab and Danger Radio, May 30 … Dilated Peoples, the Alchemist, Aceyalone and 88 Keys, June 5 … the Almost with Emery, Envy on the Coast and Army of Me, June 18 … Natasha Bedingfield with the Veronicas and Kate Voegele, July 7 … the Motor City Madman, Ted Nugent, June 17 … noteworthy singer-songwriters Ingrid Michaelson and Greg Laswell, June 23 … and jam band OAR with Jeremy Fischer, June 27.

And at the Grove of Anaheim: R&B vocalist Kem, June 14, $53-$63, on sale at noon Saturday.
